Body armor for police dogs

Last year, Koda, a police dog with the Midvale police, died in the line of duty.  The police department planned to have a memorial service for him in the Larkin Sunset Gardens chapel, but the chapel only had room for 500 people.  They received so many requests to attend that the funeral had to move to a larger venue.  Koda was buried with "semi-honors" and had a police honor guard at his funeral. (You can read the sad story  here.)

But now there's good news.  In what is possibly the only piece of useful legislation ever passed in Utah, HB177 has created a fund in Koda's honor to buy body armor for K-9 police dogs.  A custom-fit vest for dogs costs about $3,000.  Utah citizens can also contribute to the cause when they pay their state taxes.  Check out the story:

These dogs (the police call them their "partners") are amazing, and we're going to contribute.

  1. Many police units in the area turn to MAGSR to find dogs to train for police duty. In fact, Arby, our former foster, went to a police officer who was part of the K9 unit (although Arby was his house pet, his "partner" also lived with them). Great cause, though! Seems to me like it should have always been standard issue.
