I'm having a little trouble wrapping up my school year, which is why I've been slow to post photos of our France trip. I thought I'd start with food (Lindy's request) and some doors I saw in Aix, which was our last stop in France.
But first, the delectable food shots! We had escargot swimming in butter and garlic (just divine) and many fantastically high-calorie creamy dishes. Seriously, we refused to eat anything unless it was at least 2,000 calories. Everything we ate in France looked pretty much like this, except the baguettes, which we consumed in epic quantities, but as you know, baguettes don't look like this. (Usage question: Is "epic" used correctly here? I'll let you be the judge.)
And now for the doors. These doors are all centuries old, extremely well polished, and beautiful. Not only are the doors incredible, but the stone entrances that the doors were placed in are also amazing. The ancient French rich people really knew how to make doors that last.
All of these doors were in the town of Aix--a very cool, very old city with streets just about wide enough for one car to drive down at 60 MPH. That was a little frightening. For some reason, the cars managed to avoid hitting the people, which was pretty amazing because it wasn't always obvious where the street ended and the sidewalk began. We quickly learned that in Aix, if you step out into a street on which a car is headed toward you at a brisk pace, it's best not to expect the car to slow down. Unlike in Salt Lake City, in Aix it's expected that people will avoid stepping into the path of oncoming traffic. Go figure.
And Logies and Jody, you know Ned, right? The guy sitting down in the photo below? He came with us to France too. We had a great group of students on this trip.
More later...
Mmmmm....those scallops (?) look so amazing. Now I kind of NEED them for dinner. Uh oh. Your car vs. pedestrian story reminded me of Elf, where Buddy the Elf tells his date that the "yellow ones" (cabs) don't stop for pedestrians. Luckily their cars are tiny, right? So c'mon, it's not like a Ford F150 hit you! :)
ReplyDeleteI do think I know that Ned, though I wouldn't have been able to pull him out of a picture since it's been so long. Very cool.
