Words cannot describe the horribleness of grading. I know how important it is for students to get useful feedback so I take grading seriously, but I hate every minute of it. I can think of a million things to distract myself from grading, which is why I have such a close relationship with the critters in my back yard, like this dude.
.....and also why getting a big pile of papers finished is so glorious. I just sent out my last feedback sheet. Here is the pile I've been working on for the last week:

And here is the dramatic side view. Spectacular, don't you think?

And now that I am finished, I am going to go read a BOOK and drink a glass of WINE with one of my CATs while Bob watches the game. I'm reading a fabulous book called
The Help. I'll tell you all about it later. Now, it's time to luxuriate.
And Lindy and Chris sold their house! And Logies is running a marathon tomorrow! And Dunc is turning into an ironman! Life doesn't get any better than this.
In my online class we were discussing distance learning. I posted this:
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have found that in my online classes I'm not getting much if any quality feedback on my assignments. I mostly get "Good job. All sections were completed correctly." I miss the days of getting back a paper I worked hard on and having the teacher's red notes all over the pages-- "Great idea!" or "I don't think this would work because...." Even corrections on small spelling errors such as using "alot" instead of "a lot" can be very educational regardless of the subject.
And my teacher posted this response: Linden these are the gripes of most people in online classes for sure. And you know, I was one of those people years ago in an online class and said the same thing. The shoe is squarely placed on the other foot, however, when you have 45-60 people in an online class all talking at once! Can you imagine that in an on-ground classroom? Would you be able to reply back to all of them speaking? Would you be able to "mark up" every single paper with smiley faces and comments? In graduate work, especially this would be hard.
Um...my mommy does it all the time, lady!
Congrats on being done, mommie-o!
Now, that's just pathetic. My response to her: Find a new line of work, lady.
ReplyDeleteYay! Massive pile of grading demolished! Good work.
